A near perfect landing on one hell of a short runway! Preceded by a short helo flight around the landing strip just to show what I was up against.

I KNOW [or assume] that this would be impossible in real life, but even in MS FSX it's one hell of a challenge! I was hoping to be the 1st and I was gutted when I found out that several other have beaten me to it, so I decided to go one better & do it in a thunderstorm... I lost count of how many attempts were needed but my patience finally paid off.

I'm using the [excellent] FLYTAMPA scenery (in conjunction with REX) - the default FSX scenery has trees in the approach making it impossible with crash detection on.

Music: O Fortuna

Computer spec:

Original manufacturer: Packard Bell

AMD Athlon64 x2 4000+ 2.1Ghz [tried overclocking but this caused stability issues]

3Gb DDR2.

512Mb XFX Nvidia GeForce 9600GT

120Gb Seagate SATA drive with a dual-boot configuration for Vista/XP

1TB Seagate SATA drive for demanding programs & media

*I run FSX under XP and installed it to the secondary HDD

  • 97 knots for app on 747? you must be nuts, you changed the air files

  • @haykodjan I may be nuts but I swear it's all legit... no passengers or auxiliary crew, less than 1% fuel. It was right on the edge of stall but can be done in FSX - give it a go on a larger runway.

  • the music reminds me of star wars for some reason. By the way, do you think that the packard bell ipower i9723 is good for games like fsx or fs9?

  • @AirbusA380rox : I can't comment on FS9 or individual computers but I can say that FSX performance is down to memory & processor power- and more cores = more performance. The i9723 should handle FSX easily.

I know where you're coming from with the Star Wars music - The soft start building up is similar to the Imperial March.

  • Name of song? :)

  • @FSXFS2OO4 "O Fortuna"

  • That must have been a good feeling when you finally nailed it! Well done, and it looks insane with such a big plane on such a short runway.

  • @wanaplayrough : There was less than 1% fuel... how else do you explain the reverse thrust? Excuse me for the fluctuating headwind!
