Gates: Wikileaks 'Embarrassing, Awkward'

Asked about the release of 250,000 U.S. Government documents by the website Wikileaks, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said the revelations were embarrassing and awkward but he added that the consequences of their release would be fairly modest. (Nov. 30)

If you dont see the paradox of saying foreign countries should allow Us to have all their intelligence, not because they trust us, not because we wont use it however we see fit (including blackmail), not becuase they like or approve of us , but because were the all-powerfull United States, you might find this counter-productive.. modest or not so modest, why take the risk?

(above: Sorry, Ive just found out he was the president at one point. )..but I think Adams point was that rejecting impositions- no matter how novel or subtley done was the key to ridding America from being a colony- not a method to make the rest of the world an American colony. So slight twisting of his words there from Mr Gates me thinks. The UK Queen keeps quoting Adams too in relations all US-UK foreign policy.

Someone who has been "at this a long time"... I think hes referring to Kissinger and his incredible words of wisdom. US leaks like a seive- but at no cost to themselves if the content of the cables is about secret conversations of foreign leaders - especially ones they dont approve of ..(i hope you get the joke about "John Adams" going on about publishing cables...JOhn Adams was some sort of Teabag Independence thinker from the 1800's. lol)
