What a difference 3 years makes in a city's finances. Compare the lush, perfectly conical conifer (actually several trees tied together) that was Chicago's 2006 Daley Plaza Christmas tree to this year's lean and hungry tannenbaum.
People who are unhappy with it forget that Chicago is in the middle of a budget crisis in which thousands of employees have been laid off and the rest are being forced to take unpaid furlough days. The State of Illinois is in the same boat, but that's another video.
Frankly, if it's a choice between the perfect tree and vital city services like snow removal, tree trimming and garbage pickup, they can lose the bleeping tree. That's not what Christmas is about, anyway.
Very nice!
