So I got home from yesterday's shoot, and looky what's on the doorstep - a new toy! A Sony NEX 5n bundle, to be precise. I spent a little time getting to know it last night, and this morning, I took it for a walk around the yard. Shot in 1080 60p with a 16mm prime (Sony), manual aperture/iso (wide open @ 2.8 and iso 400, I believe), hand held on small sticks (for balance), no filters. Finished in 24p (who doesn't love slow motion?), graded with Magic Bullet. Music by Blake Althen/Human Factor from the "Copley: An American Fairytale" soundtrack. (it's my movie, so there, youtube). If anyone wants to know my initial impressions, I'll be happy to share - just ask. Enjoy!

PS - This is just a quick test, not "Ben Hur." So accept the occasional foible, please.

  • I love taking videos too with my 5N but the scenes turn out shakey. Can you advice what's "a small stick"?

  • @dovespaniel - a small, consumer-grade tripod. Good for counterbalance.

  • Thanks for the comments. After living with this camera for a bit, I only have one real issue - I wish I could record at higher data rates. But considering the price point, it's almost impossible to beat. I've also done a number of lens tests and the Nikon 50mm 1.4 prime just sings on this thing. Overall, I find it much more cinematic than Canons (though the 5d mkII is a bit sharper); but the picture is just so pleasing from the 5n.

  • seyzmo - Unfortunately, the clicks are there, just buried in the mix.

  • Nice shoot, nice yard, and nice camera. Great job!

  • "hand held on small sticks (for balance)"
