The Bar Method™ Craze Uses a Ballet Bar to Reshape the Body
† The Bar Method™ began in 2004 with three studios. By 2007, five more opened. Now, twenty-one facilities around the country are open or under construction with eleven more in planning stages. On November 15, 2008, The Bar Method™ San Diego joins other franchisees in Chicago, San Franciscos Bay Area, New Jersey, Los Angeles, New York, Texas, and Colorado.
† Unlike aerobics and cross-training techniques of former decades, The Bar Method™ goes beyond offering a healthy heart, greater flexibility, and a stronger core by combining the muscle-shaping principles of isometrics, the body-elongating practice of dance conditioning, the science of physical therapy and the intense pace of interval training into a powerful exercise format that quickly and safely slims and elongates muscles. The Bar Method™ actually reshapes the entire body by creating carved muscles, lifted seats, flatter abs, highly defined arms, and long, lean thighs muscles.

The Bar Method™ has become a significant and growing player both at local and national level. The New York Times Style Section wrote, Bar Butt has entered the local dialect, EXTRA called it The best of the best when it comes to star workouts , The San Francisco Chronicle wrote, The Bar is the new Pilates, and Glamour Magazine dubbed it, The Hollywood exercise trend of the moment.† People Magazines 2008 cover article on Drew Barrymores new body explained, Barrymore has become a devout follower of the ballet-influenced Bar Method that helped her shed almost fifteen pounds. Other celebrities who have attended classes include Eve, Tori Spelling, Alicia Silverstone, the Olsen twins, Kyra Sedgwick, Julia Ormond, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Bar Method San Diego will be located at 2751 Roosevelt Road, Suite 200 in Point Lomas Liberty Station above San Gymnastics and CRAC Chiropractic. The 3100 SF studio features high-end fixtures and finishes, a comfortable reception/lounge area, full locker room, and showers. Owner Allison McCurdy and her husband Mike will operate the studio and have future plans to expand studios North along the I-5 corridor. Grand Opening classes will be held at 8:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m., and 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, with regular class schedule commencing Monday, November 17. Initially, The San Diego studio will offer 35 classes per week Monday - Sunday, between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. It plans to grow classes to 60+ per week.

  • Yes, Burr used to teach at Lotte Berk and actually had the only Lotte Berk franchise (for Southern Connecticut) for ten years. What are the Lotte Berk classes like in London?

  • A lot like Callanetics..which I love. Didn't the creator of this method and callanetics work together or something? Thought I heard that somewhere

  • Hi Jen -

Callanetics and The Bar Method are related. Both techniques are descendants of The Lotte Berk Method, which was originally a small studio in London run by ex-dancer Lotte Berk. Lotte had been injured and incorporated physical therapy into ballet barre exercises.

Founder Burr Leonard has just come out with new DVD's. You'll love them!

    Best,

    Mimi

  • Ballet BARRE.......not ballet bar....thank you

  • Yes! The Bar Method is #1. That along with callanetics is the best for "shorties" lol...seriously though it does elongate the body and gives the posture of a dancer...they are not lying.

  • ooo! chris judd! that's one of J.Lo's ex husbands. he is so adorable!

  • Burr used to teach Lotte Berk - but modified the Lotte Berk exercises...and turned it into Bar Method! I like both methods..I actually attend Lotte Berk classes at Lotte's old studio here in London.

  • this is coming to boulder, but still not close enough! it looks like the perfect compliment to my marathon training!

  • Thank you, Cherry!!!
