I go over Black's traps in the Englund Gambit (1.d4 e5?!) and go over a few of my games showing how to beat it.
p.s. I've written three chess books: "250 Deadly Checkmates," "150 Deadly Opening Traps" & "Chess for Beginners." You can see them/order at: http://www.geocities.com/jeffreyschess and you can check out sample chapters here:

  • Englund isn't as bad as those 3 games illustrate. The problem is that most Englund players run out of ideas after their last trap fails and they have to defend. However, in my experience as a blitz player on chess.com (around 1500), I win far more games than I lose with this gambit.

  • I just fell for #chess trap. Glad to find the antidote (Nd5) to protect c3. Thanks!

  • I have encountered this with white so many times and i crush em with Nd5 @4:10. Nd5! @4:10 is so much stronger!!

  • @matthasyouinhisspell You are wrong,. because if Ne6+ then the King can escape to Ke7.

  • Also called Freddie Kruger gambit

  • LOL I feel u m8 @ 8:20

  • Great video. But isn't Black able to take the pawn on e5 at 8:00? Obviously White still has a very good position but is it really necessary to sacrifice the pawn?

  • Agree with yoda7890 about the mate at 5:17!

  • At 9:05 you had mate in one move, not Bg2. Ne6#
