Nikki - Burt Bacharach. Composed, Arranged And Conducted By Burt Bacharach ... Somewhere there is sunshine.
Somewhere days are warm.
Somewhere there's a happy harbor
far from the storm.
Out where the sun shines there is someone
I'm meant to adore,
and I know the day I find her,
I'll smile once more.

Nikki, it's you.
Nikki, where can you be?
It's you, no one but you for me
I've been so lonely since you went away.
I won't spend a happy day
'til you're back in my arms.

For ev'ry dream there is a dreamer,
and when dreams are gone,
for each wish
another star shines to wish up on.
Take all my dreams and all my wishes
Hold them in your heart.
Tell me soon we'll be together,
never to part.

Nikki, it's you.
Nikki, where can you be?
It's you, no one but you for me
I've been so lonely since you went away.
I won't spend a happy day
'til you're back in my arms.

Don't make me wait here in the shadows
till my life is done.
I can't live without the sunshine,
you are the sun.

Oh Nikki, it's you.

  • I love Burt Bacharach! A musical genius. His compositions and arrangements were exquisite. Beautiful, interesting, unusual, and unique chord progressions were part of his superb creativity. Many of his songs were technically very difficult to sing...but how beautiful! Thank you very much for posting this.

  • BEAUTIFUL, I REMEMBER WATCHING THE ABC MOVIE OF THE WEEK ON TUESDAY NIGHTS WITH THIS THEME SONG.... SOOO BEAUTIFUL, THANKS

I don't hear that at all. Betts' arrangement is very different from (and more dynamic than) Bacharach's (and I quite like them both), but they are both clearly Bacharach's composition "Nikki." I'd say they have a lot more in common than a few chords -- it's the same melody.

  • @Slick2614 there similar--yet quite different--almost two compositions.

  • @gejopari Its quite different from the ABC theme--they share some chords but that's about it. Betts arrangement is almost a new composition.

  • @windstorm1000

Bacharach didn't do the arrangement that was used on the ABC Movie of the Week; Harry Betts did

  • @Slick2614 Why don't you email Burt and ask.

  • @rickw1100 We'll just have to agree to disagree.

  • @Slick2614 True. That it wasn't released as a record for general distribution doesn't mean that it didn't already exist. But the fact that it hadn't been written yet- does. It was not written before 1966 -therefore it could not have been used in 1965.

  • @rickw1100 That it wasn't released as a record for general distribution doesn't imply that it didn't already exist or hadn't already been used, and I'm CERTAIN that it had been, regardless of Bacharach's comments.

  • @Slick2614 -Not possible. Instrumentals were big on the networks and there have been hit songs used, however, if you look up the background on "NIKKI" you'll find : The Burt Bacharach Orchestra & Chorus. Liberty Single #55934 - Released 12/66. Composed, Arranged And Conducted By Burt Bacharach. Bacharach himself has discussed the origen of this song. It was wriiten for his daughter who was born in July of '66. It couldn''t have been in '65. It wasn't written or released until '66.

  • @rickw1100 Besides the Movie of the Week, I am CERTAIN that ABC used the melody as general background music when their logo was displayed in Autumn, 1965.
