  • Mr. Stardust, I have never forgotten Christian Ferras since I bought the DGG recordings of Sibelius, Brahms and Tchaikovsky concertos in 70s. He is still one of the very best, indeed!

  • Hey that's good. Can you post Tchaikovsky Concerto as a video file or something?

    Would be great.

    Thanks

  • I only now discovered Ferras after reading about his performance of the Sibelius (which I also heard, and loved.) Many thanks for this upload, this is gorgeous playing.

  • where did you read about that performance?

  • One of the all time greats. Sadly declined with alcoholism and depression until his suicide. Yes a very quick vibrato and lots of sliding, but what a stupendous sound, as the comment below observes: very luminous sound at the top and deep and dark on the G string. Sometimes over attacked with the bow but a fabulous sense of line and phrasing. Don't know why he isn't considered to be up there with the conventionally regarded stars of the past. He should be.

  • WONDERFULL!!!!,Fantastic, Ferras was incomparable, unique..!!!, sound.., vibrato.., emotion.., soul.., Thanks for posting this precious jewel!!!!

  • @fingerhorn4 some hope for us: things are changing. an environment like Youtube is not just another technology, but a deep change in collective awareness. Here we can see and hear them again and again, and gradually some of the best and forgotten emerge to the top. Good public relations can less and less distort our autonomous "objective" minds. It's like a collective psychoanalysis of a sort, through which hidden treasures of our past experiences and knowledge are coming to light.

  • No mira el mastil del violin, excelente en Sibelius, para mi expresa todo el sentimiento de la musica, tiene mucho brio y vibrato

  • @fingerhorn4 is Celine regarded as on of the greatest novelist ever, no he is not, doesn't make him any less of a genius . . .

  • the day before President Kennedy was killed.

  • his vibrato is so AMAZING and he makes the violin sound like a trombone LOL.

    Seriously, it's GODLIKE.

  • BIGGER THAN LIFE !!!

  • ferras is the best violinist of the world..

  • @kyleclef Yes ,as we say in France "il s'est fait sauter le caisson", very sad...he was also fantastic in Sibelius cto !

  • What a wonderful violinist and he makes it look so easy.

  • @ 0:53 OMG!!!
