One of the Thai lady teach me to do the crochet stitch, they called it Mali Dokmai or Jasmine Flower. You can make it like making the puff stitch with only 2 times yarn over and making loops. It also look like star stitch a little bit where you placed the stitch on 3 places before you secured it.

When securing the stitch you must hold the last yarn before yarn over and pull a loop through all the loops, then make a loop through the last yarn that you hold (2 loops), then yarn over and pull through the 2 loops until you only have 1 loop left (like making single crochet)
