taken from the GREAT book 'the animators survival kit' by Richard Williams, this walk was originally animated by the legenary animator Art Babbitt, when animating Goofy in, probably, the silly symphony cartoon 'moving day'. I animated this using the keys and extreme positions by Richard Williams. This walk is a perfect example of how to get weight, personality and flexibility in a walk.

  • @Recedebo Agreed, its much cheaper today than it was. I think greed is the origin of this problem. Greedy decision makers who care only about furthering the depth of their own back pockets. The same types who outsource animation to 3rd world countries because its cheaper, neglecting their fellow country men and wrecking the industry. If your competitor is knocking out shows at a fraction of the cost you are, they will receive more business. Its basically quantity over quality. Sad really.

  • @Wynand07 although it IS more cheap than it was a some years ago! Compare what they did in cel animation back at the early 90's! We are not going so far as the 40's. I don't understand why they can't still produce good animation these days, when there are no cels needed or film or expensive camera equipment etc.

  • @dadadaJOE agree with you, i have actually changed my view on CG in the last year. I have seen a lot of CG animation that i find very impressive. I used to be very opinionated and narrow minded, when i wrote the comments dissing CG. I have no problem with any form of animation these days. But i'm still doing 2d rather than computers, simply because i love drawing and i think 2d is the most expressive form of animation.

  • @littlefilmsJN It's not that computer animation is bad it's the in individuals now a days have no personality

  • i LOVE how he breaks the joints in his walk cycles!

  • @littlefilmsJN I doubt we'll be seeing a lot of traditionally animated content in the future as sadly its too expensive. The world simply doesn't wish to/can't fund it anymore. Still 2d will never die, it'll just evolve, more towards limited animation, which can be verry pretty in its own right =). But yeah 3d works really well when combined with live action =). I mean just look at avatar =). Although i would love a 2d animated show which still incorporates cartoon violence and cartoon humour

  • @doomlevel27 I scan every frame :/ - takes a while but generally get better results

  • @thebastardevil Hey man I have this book too, and my animations are coming out like this too because I'm drawing the stick figures, but this is merely to get used to animating and using the techniques he's talking about. I'm not going to make any cartoons with these stick figures. And how anyone could call any animation "lazy" is over critical and not at all constructive.

  • ah that's a relief, hopefully we'll be seeing some REAL cartoons on our T.V screens again.

  • It's coming back though. The majority of my animation class wants to do classical when they get out. Also the amazing Princess and the Frog.
