@TrnsfrmerPrncs4lyfe If she HAD closed in fifth every time, she would have been turning on the spot. She was technically "closing" in fourth (based on R.A.D. positions), in order to travel downstage, which is part of the choreography for this variation.

shouldn't she have just carried on the foot from the first grande battement into the pirouette prep? she didn't close fifth before either of the 'big' jumps either

@TrnsfrmerPrncs4lyfe It looked to me like they were supposed to be travelling pirouettes, which end in fourth.

@ballet901ami It has been mentioned below, but she said that the stage was too slippery for shoes. She'd originally planned to do it on pointe as well. Shame :(
