9.) If you've done as I said and beelined for defendable areas and knocked strong factions, you should have a good foundation midgame with at least 2 large and several small to moderate factions annexed and chokepoints blocked safely from the unending troop streams. With superior Generals (from strong factions you've annexed) and terrain on your side, you should manage fine from here.
-
7.) You'll likely be holding endless streams of troops from any non-ally border, make sure to check how far you must advance to get another defendable position. commit your officers and forces in a way so you can expand all places at once (to avoid taking a new city only to have it rushed by 4 hostile ones).
8.) Don't let the big boys grow! snag them while they have only 1-3 cities, take all their officers (don't execute ANYONE).
-
6.) split between defense and invasion phases, make sure you end your invasion phases with defendable borders only (likewise, only initiate invasion if you can make it to the next defendable area), research crossbow turrets and start parking them on chokepoints, you can hold these chokepoints with 2 divisions vs a much larger force (fortifiers can 1 turn rebuild if you have any, greatly increasing defense power)
-
4.) If your defendable position has a back to the wall (only one direction to approach), surviving shouldn't be much of an issue. Otherwise, try bordering your strong friend to gain that advantage, commit resources to the "front".
5.) Beat the crapshoots of the AI, sortie viable force standing at your defences leaving the city look weak (~3k troops inside), kill invaders and move in on THEIR city with the same force (needs much food).

Try this strategy:
1.) Don't hang back, ROH has everyone start with one city, meaning beating one will gain you their whole cadre of officers! Run over at least one major faction before it can grow.
2.) Expand somewhere defendable with good economy, like Wan or areas with chokepoints, there's no shame in losing pointless city from early aggressions that aren't worth the effort defending from.
3.) Start making the right people hate eachother and like you from there. Ally with one big guy

@SinJackal I have never needed to execute anyone to get anything off my back, even as lolKongRong (3 officers hurrdurr) in ROH hard (though admittedly I might have to reload several times and might consider savescumming...).

In one sentence, what is this series to Dynasty Warriors?

VERY nice!Totally underrated!

@DynamicZer0 Yes, it only happens with fully developed cities, but it shouldn't. It gets to the point where you have to execute half their officers just to make any progress. If you don't, it's almost impossible to get anywhere. This happens to me in late game, when there's only 2-3 countries left. I even set up viceroys to attack on multiple fronts and it didn't help at all. I had to start executing dozens of officers before I got anywhere.

My usual strategy is to blitz a strong warlord (preferably of the 3 main factions) when they only have a single city (assuming its RoH) by taking a city next to their's, emptying your city of troops by letting them stand OUTside. This provokes a stupid attack from their city even at <15k soldiers inside. Defend and slip by to wreck their barracks, then take the city without executing anyone, hire their whole faction. This even works as Kong Rong, but blitz someone else first or you'll lose.
i need this on my pc
