Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics application, therefore virtually everything in Illustrator is created using paths. The Pen Tool is the king of paths, you can create any king of path using the pen tool, you just need to know how to use it! We are going to learn how to use the pen tool and we will trace the outline of an object as well! Watch, Learn, Enjoy!

  • @kpo784 I disagree. You're correct: another teacher might be able to teach what he did in less time, but some people like knowing the why along with the how- this is why this tutorial is valuable. I think he did a great job and was very helpful.

Suppose you are drawing with the pen, and you want to zoom in to tight spaces, without deactivating the pen toll... (for example if you were tracing the tuning pins) press ctrl+ (cmd+ for Mac). Then the spacebar becomes a temporary toggle for the pan (hand) tool.

If people find this useful, thumbs up to keep it at the top.

  • Excellent video, nice audio. I've been using Illustrator for years, but watch tutorials to learn new tricks.

I learned nothing new, so I'll leave your audience with 2 tips you didn't cover:

If you place an anchor incorrectly, don't release the mouse. Press spacebar with mouse button still down. You can now move the anchor maintaining its' previous curve.

If people find this useful, thumbs up to keep it at the top.
