A clip from Thursday night's kickboxing workout at Mullins Martial Arts in Norton. You'll see Aaron Marcum, a mixed martial arts competitor with Team FAST, working various focus mitt and Thai pad drills. Here we are concentrating on some of the mechanics of the right Thai kick to the ribs. I've found that one of the best ways to teach this kick is to do it as a partner drill where your partner catches the kick and makes you hold it for a few seconds before you push off of his body and return to your left lead. The partner should coach you by reminding you to get your right knee across the centerline, keeping your left leg bent, throwing your right hand down, and keeping your left hand up as a defense. This may look easy but do it for a few rounds and tell me how easy it is then...The drill helps burn in the motion and it gives you a rest from the other Thai pad and focus mitt drills.
@finishjj -- And I'm sure you are a serious MMA competitor with years of experience and a fantastic record. Thanks for the comment.

You should practice getting punched in the face. Thats what'll happen if you use these techniques in any kind of mma bout.
