In early 2002 at a Level Crossing at Papamoa in the Bay of Plenty. I was pulling in to ask the crew if a train was due, I didn't have to I could hear it. I aimed the camera the rest you see. http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/nz-rail-geography/

  • that bell looks like a Western railroad supply

  • 3' 6" guage in NZ

  • 4' 8-1/2" gauge?

Horn sounds much like old grade crossing warning: -. (long/short) used in 1800s to early 1900s in US before --.- now used.

-. is used today in China

  • That's the standard bells sound in NZ, and yes, identical to those bells in the US. In recent years they have been gradually replacing them with electronic bells, but fortunately the older sort are still far more common.

  • Those bells sound American.

  • that train was bookin'! Good Video.

  • New Zealand railways.
