Documentary about great cave diver Dave Shaw. David Shaw was an Australian scuba diver, a technical diver and an airline pilot for Cathay Pacific, who flew the A330-300, A340-300 and A340-600. He is one of only nine people who have dived below a depth of 240 metres (800 ft) on self-contained underwater breathing apparatus.

David Shaw died on 8 January 2005 while seeking to recover the body of Deon Dreyer, a South African diver who had himself died 10 years previously, and whose body Shaw had discovered at a depth of 270 metres (890 ft) of fresh water in Bushman's Hole, South Africa in October 2004

  • As a dive professional, I always have to ask myself... Why can't journalists and filmmakers ever do their research properly? Aren't there any dive pros proof-reading?

"...if a diver ascents too quickly, air bubbles can become trapped in his body, producing an excruciating condition, known as the bends..."

It is inert gas, nitrogen and/or helium, depending on the gas mixtures used, that form bubbles in a diver's body, causing decompression sickness, commonly known as the "bends". It is NOT air!

  • Absolutely stirring video...thank you for posting...

  • @flarez what a well thought out and educated response. You certainly changed my opinion of you with that one

  • @jumaki15151 Fuck off

  • @flarez are you retarded?

  • R.I.P.

  • What an amazing story! If you read about Anne this is how Dave would have wanted to pass on

  • @Philipbeavan so what's your point? what are you trying to say? what's the use of a helmet cam and a bodybag in a situation like that? what's to be researched about that? bring something to the discussion or fuck off

  • @flarez No it's not, its true, I read the book "Raising the Dead" Amazing story, so good I'm gona read it again!

  • Flarez - if you did even a modicum of research you’d realise how stupid your comment is – try finding out a little about a subject before speaking – you’ll look infinitely less idiotic!

  • this whole thing of picking up the corpse is absolute shit, creepy, media crap for TV.

    the bodybag, cameras etc.. wtf!?

  • ...otherwise, good documentary, and very important to have the growing number of technically orientated divers watch things like this.

    RIP David Shaw.
