@BRUTUALTRUTH Two things. The Government of England committed those atrocities; More was not in that "loop". Second, More died a true *martyr.* Martyrdom is a form of sanctity which cleanses and absolves of any and all sinful activity up to the moment of martyrdom. Many martyrs participated in oppression of Christians before their martyrdom. St. Paul himself is the first of many--he held the cloaks of those who murdered St. Stephen the Deacon.

Anglican church made him a saint as well, the church King Henry 8th started. He never tortured or burned anyone. He did question reformists though. Lord Chancellor didnt have the ability to execute or torture. Most a Lord Chancellor could do was request a pardon or reduced sentenced on the accused.

@RichardLKentEsq Richard my frend. More also racked, tortured and burned protestants so he received what he dished out, St Thomas More is no saint, Why the catholic church made him a saint is beyond me. It is like making Jack the Ripper head of the Committee for Safety of Women!

@BRUTUALTRUTH I don't see why this got negative votes. This "fanatical" Catholic thought it hilarious. More would have, too. (His other last words -- not shown in this clip -- were a similar joke. "Please help me up the scaffold. Afterwards, I can see to coming down them myself." And (to the headsman): "Please don't strike my beard--after all, *it* hasn't offended the King.")

I like how the executioner doesn't stall. He just hurries and kills More as quickly and with little suffering as possible.

"I die the King/his majesty's good servant, but God's first". The best quote that I could ever obtain from as St Thomas More is currently the patron saint of my church in Malaysia (where I live).
The "thump" at the end of the scene is more gruesome and effective than the most graphic violence could ever hope to be.

I agree with you AllenbysEyes. That thump at the end leaves more to the imagination than any graphic scene filmed today could be.
