@ericandamanda338 thanks for the scoop, that is some good shooting sir. my 100 yard open sights was about 8 inches, 50 yard was 4 inches. hope the scope will tighten it to what you got, I am getting an extra guide gun to put a scope on. figure I'll take the long shots with the scope and let my brother be backup with open sights if they try to get rowdy.

@PimpSlapNoJutsu The scope, rail and rings were given to me. But the scope runs about $250-300, i think the rings are about $60, I think the mount is about $80-100. The rifle was $550 and the sights were $60 dollars. So overall, it would cost about $1000.

how much did the whole setup cost you?

@MrGr1874 Thanks, the sights are the XS Sights ghost ring front and rear sights, the scope mount is made by them too. If I knew I was going to mount a scope in the first place, they make a rear sight/scout mount combo.
hey what scout scope are you using ?

For some relief on recoil with your hunting loads, try a Limbsaver recoil pad, they're the best ones I've come across, and what my dad uses on his 1895. None of our 45-70 loads are "practice", my dad loads them all up to the same area, the limbsaver makes them pleasant from the bench tho. Nice piece!

@AKknapper The recoil pad that comes on the GBL is really nice. The recoil doesn't bother me at all, if anything I like it. The full power loads cost a lot more to make than the "practice" loads. I'm not made of money, so I save it where I can. I have the Limbsaver pad on my 870, and I agree, it is very nice. Just no need to put on my 1895.

Pistol scope is a good idea. How far were you shooting and how tight were the hits? I just shot my new 1895 GBL and the factory sights were dead on at 100 yards. Was it hard to put the Ghost sights on? I do not see how the factory sights can be removed on mine. I might not go with a scope as it will be for hog hunting and it can get a little hairy trying to line up an angry hog thru a scope.

@lingbopper88 I was doing an initial sight in, so I was shooting at 50 yards. At that distance I got one ragged hole with 3 shots. At 100 yards, it groups about 1.5 inches. I haven't done much work on those reloads. The sights are very easy to put on, simply unscew the front sight and screw in the new one. The rear sight goes in the scope mounting holes. The factory rear sight has to be drifted out with a punch, which comes with the sights. All instructions are included with the sights.
