The way Austin-based director Ben Steinbauer sees it, Rebney was the very first viral video star -- one of those people for whom we can never know if we're laughing at or with them.

The first section of the movie is a thoughtful, if slightly wonky, meditation on how technology has redefined our notions of celebrity and altered so many ordinary people's lives. But the movie takes a deeper, darker turn when Steinbauer tracks down Rebney, who may be playing the director for a fool.
