This is our first experience with modding an Xbox, and it turned out pretty well. It was overheating before, in the standard case, so we decided that we should submerge it in mineral oil and put it in a tote. So far, it seems to be effective!

If you want to do it yourself the materials list includes:
1 tote (big enough for 360 motherboard)
1 Xbox 360
23 (approx) Bottles of Mineral Oil (Enough to fill your tote)
1 Torx 6 screw driver
1 Torx 10 screw driver

Notes: Keep the HDD and DVD drive out of the liquid. The HDD especially will suffer. DO NOT try to water proof the HDD, it needs to breathe (to equalize pressure).

  • So does this keep the system cool if you are playing for a couple of hours?

What was the dry ice for? Did you put that in too?

  • @LegacyHigh2012

Yeah, the system will run for as long as we have needed it so far. We left it at the Crackdown title screen for 48 hours once, but that wasn't really an accurate test. They system was overheating in the actual case, which is why we tried this.

  • Awesome, Where are those bubbles coming from?

  • @uberstupidmove

The bubbles are coming from the dry ice under the mineral oil.

  • The hard drive is not submerged. I split the case (on the HDD) and ran the cable up the side. You can see it taped to the side sticking up from the tote.

  • Would it make a difference? No. The processor it set to a specific rate. I want to see an over clocked Xbox .....

  • So what if oil gets hot, so evenly hot/warm oil gets everything hot/warm?

  • Is the dry ice necessary?

If so, could this be fixed by a small radiator?

  • nice i like it im going to do this to my 360

  • @EurichChankov

yes you can it will not hurt it just dont put your rom in thir

  • I wonder why it's named project Zibri :)

  • @Omarscape oh, that makes a lot more sense then

  • @stupidrelaoded mineral oil is not conductive.

  • ok, I must be a noob modder, but how the hell is the thing not shorting out?

  • can you get the port where you plug in the power brick submerged?
