If we bomb Iran, or the next president is assassinated (before inauguration), an economic depression, a natural disaster, riots... any trigger could be called a Catastrophic Emergency and Bush would declare martial law and remain in power for an undetermined length of time. A wise man, Russell means is. He is a person fighting for a whole nation. The voice of our people. We cannot down grade Russell means because he is a brave talking for a nation that is now scared to even talk about their ways and stand-up for what they believe in. I once heard Russell Means speak in person, and in public even he acknowledged the role of the elders in Native American society - though apparently he doesn't follow through with offering the traditional level of respect. I do hope that in some way the Lakota, and all Native tribes, can be restored to a state where both personal and cultural well-being are restored.

@Tigerpaws9097826 He broke various rules of native society to get where he is now. First, he didn't ask our elders for permission - He simply decided he was in charge. And believe me, being disrespectful towards elders is one of the worst things you can do, it can get you kicked out of the tribe. So, no Lakota ever asked him for anything and whenever he is on shows he acts disrespectful and proud. All Lakotas I know voted for the other guy. He has no honor among us. All he wants is spotlight.

@Innkaris Can you be more specific about at least some of the points where the predominant views of the Lakota culture and those of Russell Means differ? At least based on what I've heard so far in this video, it seems that Mr. Means raises some valid concerns - such as, an indirect appeal for the welfare of the Lakota, and offering due respect for the influence that Native American culture has had on that of the Europeans which has generally displaced it. Thank you for whatever you can add.
