Episode 16: Azi
Azi is a single 31-year-old psychology professor living in Washington, DC. This socially conscious scholar has some passionate theories about image. She's clearly never taken, "Style 101." Spending the last ten years buried in the books earning her PhD has left her with a wardrobe of immature college girl duds and a nasty habit of shopping for clothes in her mother's closet. For Azi, fashion is frivolous and she'll analyze and overanalyze to prove it.

  • @ApriltjGirl: Thank you for uploading all these seasons, I'm always up to date with them because of you! Also, where are these TLC shows airing? I noticed Russian advertising for TLC evening shows, and it's interesting that these shows are aired in English not Russian.

  • @brownchairs you're welcome! The show airs in Russia, I have cable TV that enables to set the language (Russian or English). Since I understand english I personally prefer watching it in original language :) but sometimes I watch both versions

  • what a beautiful family, great episode - thank you very much for uploading this!!!

  • I know the concept of the dress on manikin is to show Azi what she should be wearing and what to look for but I HATE that color green.

  • A lot of this spoke to me. I have some of the same philosophies as her and have a similar body (and crappy wardrobe). I struggle to reconcile my desire not to give into capitalism, commercialism, and traditional "femininity" and my desire to look attractive and convey myself as an intelligent, put-together individual. I also think that I am having difficulty transitioning into full-fledged adult and letting go of my youth. Awesome episode - it's encouraged me to do some self-evaluation.

  • @TheVikingmaiden I disagree. This woman is beautiful, intelligent, driven (she has a PHD before 30), etc. etc. I don't think she had a lot of baggage at all. Her terrible wardrobe did not reflect a bad inside, it just reflected a difficulty in understanding its value.

  • @oshinsr Once you get your PHD and have spent that many years educating yourself and learning how to be an academic, you aren't "preaching", you're just speaking. It might sound "hoity toity" and perhaps even contrived, but that's just how you learn to verbalize your thoughts. She has spent years in training to communicate in that manner.

As for writing a paper about her experience... I hope she does. It would probably be very interesting. I'd read it for sure!

  • @dua333 I think you're misunderstanding her. There are so many people out there who are starving to death etc. that it seems trivial to concern yourself with things like clothes and makeup. To buy into capitalism and get things for the sake of demonstrating status seems shallow and detrimental to the bigger picture. If anything, she is trying to show the exact opposite, that she ISN'T "above all that" - she is a humble human who doesn't need to show off her success or her privilege.

  • WOW!!! she is STUNNING!!!!!!

  • Azi's dad is sooooooo cute!!!!!!!!! And her mom is beautiful! They all look so short standing next to Clinton and Stacy!

  • I love her new hair! I like how Ted does the styles.
