A short film featuring Ethel Waters and a very young Sammy Davis Jr.

sorry about some parts being upside down. I used Windows Movie Maker to split the movie in 3 parts to upload it, but for some reason it flipped some of the clips upside down.

  • Hi Folks, The upside down seems to ad to its charm. Jay

  • "Comissioner of Pork!" lol

  • Ethel Waters set the pace for jazz and popular singers for the next 50 years.

but there was so much racism in america at that time.

...that on her break out performance on stage, she was allowed only to appear in plantation dress with cotten plantation background scene.

Ethel Waters was another incredibly talented, strong black woman.

  • is he white, or "high yaller"?

"We used to be Republicans, but now we're Democrats..."

  • hahaha "is you got any money"....

im puttin that on a T-shirt.....real talk.

this is such a great short..

  • A watermelon investigator. Good Lord!

  • Ethel Waters was one of the great singers of the 20th century. A shame she had to work with such stereotyped racist conditions, but we're fortunate more of her talent has been preserved for posterity.

Looks like one white actor in the senators-- maybe a reference to there being just one African American in Congress at the time?

Ethel Waters sings "we schwartzers"! Ha ha!

  • Oh LAWDY! I's the presuhdintess!

  • Ethels version of "Underneath the Harlem Moon" is the best that I have ever heard! Although this was a sterotypical movie, I love it!

  • abosutely remarkable!!!!!!!!!! it's nothing like ole movies, classic & legendary entertainers
