What's with all the chirping birds in the background? They shot this scene at night.

Wow, what great dialogue. What great writing. Amazingly fresh look at that old tried and true story. Never thought of Dracula as being lonely have we? Top-shelf writing. Top shelf.

Williem..made the character his own..thats what I say

To put it simply, it is a fictional "making-of" dramatization. A sort of "what-if" scenario. What if Max Schreck was so good as Count Orlock because he WAS Count Orlock? It's also interesting to note the director-actor relationship this film shows. Some actors are difficult to work with and directors have to make concessions for them. Like working with a vampire.

He was nominated for this and I still think he should have won. He did a great job of reacting the scenes from "Nosferatu".

Williem Dafoe would have deserved the Oscar.
-
indeed.that would make sense.fine point in good film.
-
It can be fictional(which it is) but it cant be completely because it is about the making of a real film in 1922 with the names of the real actors , so it is both historical and fictional
-
Completely fictional
Dafoe should have won the Oscar for this. Such a shame.

Nope, the scene is definitely in the book. It's removed from most abridged copies, though, so maybe you read an abridged version? I read the abridged version (unwittingly - hadn't realised I'd picked up that version) first, and was really surprised just how much they'd axed from the novel when I re-read the full thing later.
As for this clip - I love this move and this scene. I just wish they'd carried the clip on to the point where he talks about the one who sired him. Excellent film :)
