Wish I was alive and past the age of eighteen when this music was going on. What a time it must have been. This was the beginning when God said and let there be loud electric guitar and hard rock.
No, but I recall Johnny Winter, especially, seeing him play a jam at a nearby camp with some kids. The local Lewisville cops, in high alert mode, carried Thompson burp guns in their squad cars (I saw this). N Texas was (and still is) a very conservative, churchy region and the hippies were very threatening to them. But, most folks were very nice. It was an adventure.
I have West amps for my rig 2 Filmore stax and they were famouse for blowing tubes..sh !t they had their Cabinets wired for 2 ohms..you might as well plug your speaker into a wall socket.
I was there-!! Barely 18-! Mark Farner, during the encore, peeled his shirt off and tossed it into the crowd. They were great; so were SPIRIT and BB King, et al--
Mel never had a chance in the profession for being acclaimed the best because of the raves of Cassidy, Bruce, etc. but the first to play the bass as the lead in Into the Sun and In Need. The West amplifier co. stayed full time keeping Mel and Mark supplied.
I was a huge fan in high school. Bought all their albums. Would be ridiculed by my progressive rock enjoying friends. Saw them live in vancouver, b.c. in, uhhhhhhh, 1972, I think it was. They were really, really, really loud. Thanks for posting this rare clip, leodm92.
there is another post on you tube where it implies this is the atlanta pop festival from 69. whats up with that?
