Someone asked for this, years ago, and I finally got my hands on it again. From 1997, one of the last PIFs on behalf of the outgoing Health Education Authority. They were succeeded as NHS communications box by the Health Development Agency, and then the "National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence", which clearly exists entirely for the sake of the acronym (hint: they drop the "H"), but either way the jumping man (seen here, briefly, in his second incarnation), and the feeling of vague reassurance combined with sinister forboding he provided, is long dead.

Ol' Jumpy and the HEA don't get the credit they deserve. That guy showed up at the end of PIFs about smoking, cancer, AIDS and, like this one, vaccination, simultaneously stern and reassuring. In the early nineties he became pointier and less streamlined and arguably less charming, but he was always there, at the end of the PIF or the bottom of the poster, underneath a gigantic nail and the word "TETANUS" in huge block letters.

Immunization - some people thought this metaphor was overdoing it a tad but honestly, the history of PIF is a history of pandering to stupid people, and few people are stupider than the anti-immunization set. No, the MMR does not cause Autism, nor do any other vaccines. I mean, if they did, you'd think there'd be some evidence for it, or something. But there isn't. Funny that. YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR KIDS IN DANGER, YOU IDIOTS. And any others your non-vaccinated kid comes into contact with. Well done, child-hater.

  • I don't think I ever got vaccinated against lions.

  • I'm autistic, and even I say that not immunizing is beyond foolish. Thank you for speaking out to debunk this harmful myth!

  • got three kids...two of them have autism, one doesn't. all three were immunized one the same day ( MMR vaccine) . repeat...two have autism ( and showed symptoms of it before they were immunized) and one doesn't. any questions? ( vaccines causing autism ?...pfffftttt)

  • I'm an adult who has recently caught whooping cough and I can tell you it is extremely unpleasant. Get vaccinated people!

  • Can please some body tell what this music is I love it

  • By the way, the article that said that the MMR causes autism was in fact falsified. It was bollocks from the start.

  • Hey, does anyone know the name of the music in the background?

  • In most cases where people are just plain fucking wrong (newage, UFOs, creationism, etc), I'm content to simply stick to debating facts and I avoid name calling and vitriol at all costs.

But this is the exception. If you don't vaccinate your children, you need to be shamed into realizing what immense danger you're exposing them to.

You ARE NOT smarter than the entire scientific/medical community!

Vaccinate your kids or we will call you out for what you are: paranoid, reactionary imbeciles.

  • Vaccines saves lives! This is undisputed fact.

  • @lo12rds

    Yeah there has.

Vaccinated children tend to not die.

  • Can anyone out there remember an ad on irish tv circa early 80s about german measles making children deaf - it had some nurse shouting BA BA BA into a toddlers ear to see if he could hear

  • There has actually never been a clinical study comparing vaccinated children to non-vaccinated.
