I agree with Javyn. If you change out a gas valve, water heater, gas tank on a car, instal a gas line on your meter for a bar-b-que, etc... and you are not a licensed business, you are taking on a legal risk that you cannot afford. If the house that you worked on burns down and someone dies and you are found negligent, you could be charged with involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to a pretty hefty prison term. That's why businesses keep training records for each employee and hold insurance!

and the power is killed when you take the door panel off there is a kill switch on most gas furnaces but i would still unplug the thing

its not illegal to change your gas valve but things like insurance on your house is void if you do it yourself and will not cover your house if it burns down and its only illegal if a non licensed person charges you to change your valve thats contracting without a license i would suggest you hire some one you can trust not all hvac companys have competent people working for them some are fly by nights we call them gas and gos

@javynn illegal my ass. You're most likely an HVAC Tech in which most of them try to scare people from fixing their own equipment. Im sure you tell people that it's against the law to change out a run cap that costs $10 so you can charge them $400

rubbish. You only need to be a 'competant' person to work on your own boiler.
You are only required to be Gas Safe registered to carry out work on gas appliances if you do it for profit ie work as an employee or self employed .
Suggest you read and aquaint yourself with the relevant law

i protest to remove this video from youtube, only licensed hvac technicians should remove and install gas valves, this appears to be a how to video to the public which is very dangerous and can reslult in fatal accident or house fire, it is illegal to replace gas valves if you are not a licensed professional.
