Ray, is your scope 2 or 1 chanel? If its 2 channel, then you could take voltages and ampers reading at the same time, it will show much about results.

I'm getting very similar results when measuring voltage, one of my multimiter shows over 1kV.
Try measuring with 1 probe of your multimiter on the negative terminal of your battery. it will also work
