You can play DbtS with Wiimote. It's REAL VSIM. Great, DbtS has got an appropriate device after a decade.

Things you need are:
- wiimote
- bluetooth dongle
- sensor bar
- PPJoy
- GlovePIE

The script used in this video is here, though now it can use Nunchuk, too.
http://blog.livedoor.jp/b2pencil/archives/301991.html

There is much infomation about how to use wiimote on PC so search it.

In this video, the sensor bar can't be seen but it's on the wall in front of my right arm. The distance between wiimote and sensor bar is 1m, and the width of sensor bar is 10 cm. I guess Nintendo's sensor bar is kinda big if you use wiimote at your desk because there is a right ratio of the width of sensor bar and the distance between of sensor bar and wiimote.

Well, wiimote VSIM works to use wiimote IR as joystick input and it's absolute control. So when you move the wiimote upper left, the sword moves upper left together as you hit 7 in keypad VSIM. The difference between wiimote VSIM and keypad VSIM is the former can handle analog input and you can move the sword slowly or fast anywhere as you like and the latter handles digital input. If you play/played this game and know it has great potential, you won't be disappointed about the feeling of this control.

The GlovePIE script used is based on Joystick-Mouse.PIE in WiimoteScripts folder. It supports emulation of joystick and mouse. You can switch it to hit wiimote 1 and 2 button. I recomend you to set all of wiimote keys as any of keyboard keys because DbtS seems recognize only ppjoy1.Digital1 to ppjoy1.Digital4, and the rest will be null after hitting the key on key configuration of DbtS. Anyways GlovePIE works for VSIM sake.

And one more important thing, you will feel that it's difficult to move mouse cursor or joystick input to the edge and the corner of the screen. Below setting would solve it.

// You can scale the movement to either speed up the movement or allow for
// better coverage near the edges of the screen
// Default: 1.1
var.Wiimote1.ScaleX = 2.1
var.Wiimote1.ScaleY = 2.1

  • I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who knows about this game and thinks that the Wiimote is a perfect match for it.

    However, it would be better if the Wiimote had the MotionPlus attachment for better 1:1 movement mapping...or maybe some people wouldn't like it that way.

  • Thanks for the info. I didn't know MotionPlus.

    That looks nice for sword fighting game, but there is one problem: no force feedback. It means that your sword never rebound when the sword meets opponent's sword. My another Wiimote VSIM video(using the accelerometer) has the same problem and it flaws the VSIM. But we will not get a force feedback controller like the Wiimote.

  • Force-feedback would be nice, but the issue here is that there isn't a force-feedback device that would come close to allowing the range of motion for a sword that a MotionPlus-augmented Wiimote. Compromises, compromises...

    There's the Novint Falcon, but that is both expensive and only 3DoF compared to the augmented Wiimote's 6DoF. Admitted, DBTS in its current state only utilizes 2DoF, but what if someone wants to make a game like it with 6DoF sword control?

  • Force feedback always has an intentional control(that is sometimes one feature...). I have Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro and quickly stop to use it for the feedback. Anyways Wiimote has rumble function and it imitates force feedback somehow.

    6DoF sword control would be sansational feature especially on consumer software. I remember Red Steel that is fake sword control: tracing a static move.

    In my case, if the 6Dof fighting game published I would buy Wii not only the Wiimote.

  • Wow. I should get a Wii just for this lol. DBTS pwns

  • This video uses InfraRed function of Wiimote and it's not so good playability. Check the responce video of mine. It uses gravity sensor of Wiimote and I play the game with it currently.

  • use fraps nxt time ? that game are sooo good.show fps

  • The wiimote looks incredibly sensitive. But i'm sure that's adjustable.

  • okay so all you need is a ddr pad to control movement, and two wiimotes for full sword/shield articulation

    jesus christ that game was complicated

  • Damn, i am gonna do this some day. DBTS was a shithard game.

  • i think oblivion remade with the sword engine from dbts would have been better than that (oblivion's maps, statistics etc are better)

  • This seems to work a hundred times better than the stupid mouse VSIM... It makes the game look far easier.

  • IMO Oblivion should have been the DBTS remake [IE. Should have been Die By the Sword remade with Oblivion's graphics]

  • Hopefully they'll do a remake.

  • O_O

  • This is the greatest thing ever.

    I've been playing DBTS since it came out, and now it finally has the control interface it so desperately needed.

    I'm speechless. This is awesome.
