Dr. Jennifer Smith, MD is a practicing Gynecologist at The Everett Clinic.

I do pre-treatment evaluations. I rule out uterine and cervical cancer, with some simpleoffice procedures. By doing those we can eliminate the need for more major surgery, or outpatient surgery.

The procedures that I do have been around for a number of years, but we're better at them. And, some of the procedures themselves are better adapted to an office procedure than they used to be. That is to say, they're not as uncomfortable.

The procedures that we do to screen for cervical and uterine cancer are not perfect, but they can alleviate a lot of worry. They can eliminate the need for more invasive or risky procedures, eliminating the need for anesthesia, for example.
