Just out of interest, did he give you any advice or point out anything you could have done to improve it's tone? Not that it sounds bad, but if your first guitar sounded as good as one of his I'm sure he'd wonder what he'd been doing all these years.
I know it's all about experience and there are no quick fixes but I'd love to know what he thought the difference was. I wish a luthier of that standing could play one of my guitars and tell me where they think there is room for improvement.

@LaneGuitars Ah, thank you. That helps a lot actually. My Dad, brother in law, and step farther are all somewhat carpenters (my brother in law being a foreman) so I've got a large pool of knowledge to draw from there, but I haven't picked up any books yet. I'm mainly looking to do this because I often don't like the looks fully of the guitars I see, so I'd like to be able to make my own.

Well done! I was just getting ready to ask what he said about your guitar when I saw this second video. I would have been nervous after all that hard work. Thanks for posting.
...continued... It takes practice. And I'm committed. He did say my guitar sounded good, and he meant it. If I keep working at it, I will improve at wood selection and at getting the guitar to speak. It's an art. I just have to keep working at the art. Wayne's guitars have a character to them, and he knows how to dial that in. I don't yet know how to dial it in on a level of refinement that Wayne has. It can only come thru years of work.

@rollingstoner100: thanks for asking. My idea of fine guitars is like anything else...greatness is a matter of refinement, and it has to do with many variables. My guitar doesn't sound as good as one of his. I didn't have to ask to know the difference between mine and one of his...and I don't say that to sound superior or anything, but you choose pieces that are of optimum stiffness and resonance, and then you carve or shape them to do the job they need to do as well as they can.

Nice.. would you be willing to give me advice on how to go about learning to make guitars? I'm very interested, but don't know where to start.

Thanks very much! It's hard for me being out here on the internet, to make a recommendation to you, about where to start. If you've had woodworking experience, guitar repair experience, or guitar setup experience, all that stuff will help a lot. Think of it this way, in order to build a good guitar you have to know inside and out what goes into a good guitar. So learn as much as you can and read all of the books you can find on the subject. There are many.
