This is seriously the most decrepit that I've ever seen Iggy. It was back when he was reduced to schmoozing with Tom Snyder and releasing soulless 80s rock albums to support his smack habit. Fortunately, his career finally rebounded in the early 90s, when HBO hired him to host their new show Tales from the Crypt.

This interview is kind of funny because today, Iggy Pop is not the most 'radical' or 'unconventional' artist by today's standards. In the same way that Cab Calloway was not conventional in 1980. Now Cab Calloway is tame, you can listen to his music with your grandmother. In a couple generations that will be Iggy Pop as well I think.
Iggy's not a "mess" here. Rent the DVD with the full performace. Iggy had just put in an amazing performance and was very revved up . By 1980 he'd been off smack for years. Sure, that night he'd probably hoovered up a few lines and had a couple of drinks but so had half the population of LA between the ages of 18 - 30. One of the best rock and roll frontmen of all time. Up there with James Brown. He'd broken his tooth on a mike years ago and liked to take the crown off to scare people like TS.
@jemjean at any time great artists - also painters as p.e. van Gogh - crossed the psychological borders - that is NOT a shame, NOT a mess! Don't judge before you know and understand!
Iggy is awesome and always has been. I like that he mentioned Cab Calloway as an influence too. I never would have thought. The man may be a mess, but he's one of a kind and you have to respect that!
This poor guy is a mess and it's a shame. He confesses he had problems, but at the time, he claimed that it was all manifestations of his art. Just watch the 70s Canadian interview and you'll see what I mean. He's obviously covering a huge mental and drug problem with arrogance and drivel. Does anyone know what became of the front tooth?
