Earth and Venus

We had to take great care in making sure all of our light levels were exactly what we needed. Creating this little fairytale is a tricky proposition. It could have easily become quite silly looking, so we made sure that we had enough fill to work with in post but enough contrast to give us the mood that we were looking for. At the same time, the green screen was HUGE, so the amount of fire power on it was gigantic as well. Balancing all of those levels without spill and proper contrast AND getting the right emotion from the piece was the hard part.
Half of the star background is a digital matte painting in 2D. In front of that is a layer of 3D stars. The idea was to create a sense of how huge the universe is but also give us the feeling that the stars were so close "you could reach out and touch them." Well, it turns out you can even climb around on them!
