  • Man, I've been playing for like 12 years and have always used my index finger and thumb to hold a stick, course I've never actually taken lessons. Now that I've seen this video I can see that I've been doing it wrong the whole time! Thanks man, I'm gonna try this out :)

  • @Druman19 The front finger fulcrum does have its place. It is really good when you want to play a buzz roll, or anytime you want to get the sound of a stick pressing into a drum or cymbal. Other that, I would stick with a middle finger fulcrum. Of course that is just my opinion and others may disagree....but not Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd, or Steve Smith. ; )

  • Great! I'm no pro, but I had a lesson once, and I found he had no idea what was going on. He was teaching me his bad habits! Now I need correct them, thats where you come in...you're a great teacher!

  • heh heh, study engineering for 9 years, believe me radius of gyration will sound sweet too :)

  • Nice one bro...well demonstrated, well articulated, and in my opinion, all the best info.

  • hello my freind i am much older then you are,but u are a good teacher ihope i can learn from you,,greets mrdrumclown

  • Nice tutorial! However, I think you need to return to Pullman to teach drums :) It's been tough out here to find lessons.

  • 6:27 The best part !! lol

  • according to my knowledge; that point sounds like the center of gravity of the stick. definition of radius of gyration is different, but really i can not remember it. Then again I may be wrong about the "sweet spot" (maybe it is the center of gravity) but am sure that center of gravity and radius of gyration are two different things.

As I remember it, the "sweet spot" is the radius of gyration.

  • Wouldn't radius of gyration be where the stick has perfect balance? That's not where you want to hold..

  • Thanks a lot!
