Elon Musk said otherwise. No features will be "locked out". Tesla doesn't want to treat you like a child. It is up to common sense.

Headlights can be operated normally of you wish. It is optional to use the screen to use the "basic driving" features. It's BMW iDrive on steroids.

He's wrong about the reservation numbers. I used to have #73 of the general production. That would have come after the first 100 Signatures. Now I have a Sig #280 after upgrading. Also the headlight turn on automatically using a light sensor. The touch screen is for optional operation of the headlights and other lighting.

Turning on your headlights from the screen seems as if it would take a bit longer than if you had a switch or button for it.
