Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975)
Symphony No. 15 in A major, Op. 141

Symphony No. 15 was Shostakovich's final symphony, written in just over a month in the summer of 1971. This was the first recording released, under the baton of Shostakovich's son, Maxim.

Maxim Shostakovich (b. 1938), conductor
The Moscow Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra

Released in 1972. Melodiya/Angel.

ClassicalRecords is a Youtube channel where I upload some excellent performances from the LPs in my collection. I'm uploading these LPs because they are either not available on CD, out of print on CD, or just difficult to find.

  • The 15th symphony is a great piece of music, and especially this allegretto! Thanks very much for uploading this one.

  • I would let my both hands chopped off if that would give Shosakovich time to write another symphony!

  • @samdajellybeenie14 I like it too...like listening to it not playing it though.

  • A life's biography in music. From one of his earliest musical memories as a child 'The William Tell overture' to the dying heartbeat at the end.

Such a great composer and like his other symphonies one can read many meanings into the music.

  • I first heard Ormandy's RCA recording and then went out and got this version. Brings back such memories!

  • 4:14, wow, the orgasm is coming...

  • @GLaDOS22 I agree. Him and Bartok are probably my two favorites from that era.

  • Love that bass line at 1:01!!! It's so Shostakovich and badass!

  • Shostakovich truly was the 20th century's genius composer, equal to the legends of Bach and even Mozart.

  • hahha william tell....<3 you shosty

  • This is still the best version of the Shostakovich 15 ever recorded! WHY has no-one released this on CD yet??????
