As long as the enforcer isnt a completely useless player like Twist was after the steroids, then I don't have a problem with it. Twist was so bad, he could barely skate forward, let alone backwards.
do you remember the days, of when you saw the pre game line up and you saw, say the rangers, dress kocur, domi, and say a kypreos. you knew it was gonna be a great hard nose game. i miss that. i think there should be on 4th line enforcer. other then that, load up the talented tough guys.
One major problem is the size of goalies and the equiptment that they use. Goalies used to be 5'7 and are much bigger and cover more net. They could make the nets slightly bigger. Raise the cross bar 4 inches and widen the net 6 inches-but too many traditionalists would go nuts.
I disagree about the game. Do I miss the brawls? Sure....growing up as a hockey fan in Boston during the 1970's, I grew up thinking that if there wasn't at least 3 fights during the game, it was boring. But the speed of the game has improved dramatically! No more whistle every 45 seconds because of an off sides, and games don't take 3 and a half hours to play anymore.
watch a playoff game from the 80's or 90's and then from today. the game was much better then. todays hockey is like a soccer game, not the game it was, and going nowhere.
Its all cool BoSox, no biggie In fact you should be stoked, your Bruins smoked the habs lol -- were both big hockey fans and it sounds like we both want wants best. Im ok with cutting down stickwork, holding and opening up the 2 line pass, some rules are cool -- all i say is lets have a happy medium and not make every lil hit a tickytac penalty. Those Dman i mentioned were all solid and physical but with todays rules it would hurt em. I want speed and finesse and YES some physical aspect as well
The rule changes, for the most part, have been great. I understand the ticky tac calls can be annoying, but it's made the game MUCH faster. Guys like Milan Lucic can still play their game, so it's not turned into dancing on ice. The B's Canadians series was VERY physical and exciting...probably not so much if you're a Canadians fan, but the games were intense even in a sweep.
I watched the Caps rangers 2 flipping back and fourth, and Ovechkin was phenominal last night...even in a loss.
Sorry I had a few beers last night watching Boston destroy Montreal. I may have overreacted with the insults-but here's my point. There is no longer room in hockey to carry a guy thats just a pure fighter and can't contribute. Thornton skates on the Bruins 4th line and plays 2-3 times as many minutes as a guy like Laraque-and CONTRIBUTES. Goons like Laraque dont have the talent to play in the new NHL. Yes, Clarks and Neelys are rare, but there are planty of Shawn Thorntons to choose from!
My main pt was how the game has been tinkered a bit 2 much in the past 10+ yrs (Rule changes-expansion) Like i said b4 guys like S Stevens, J Beukaboom, R Pilon would be in jail with todays ticky-tac rules (Nevermind the old skool bruins) The whole point is the league (Campbell and co) are legislating the emotion out of the game, we wont see playoff series like this 1 or Det-Col in 87 or even Isles/Tor in 2002 and thats a shame. All i have said is leave rules alone + let the boys play - simple!
the best play off ever !!!!!
