    Tellurium is 1/4 as common in the earth's crust as gold. However because of the very low demand it's only around $15 - 20 per pound (at least it was a few years ago). There is a movement in the thick-film solar cell industry to use cadmium telluride to create cheap cells (but with less efficiency than silicon). However if CdTe solar cells take off the price of tellurium could rise.

    tellurium is poisonous its a heavy metal causes all kinds of bad things but at trace amounts like smaller than a spec will cause tellurium breath but no real other side effects
