The Bridge focuses on the large number of suicides that occur each year at the Golden Gate Bridge, capturing footage of the suicides and interviewing family members. Also interviewed are people who have attempted suicide at the bridge, witnesses of the suicides, and a jump survivor.

The movie was shot with multiple cameras pointed at a notorious suicide spot on the bridge during 2004. It captured 23 people as they took their final plunge, and then offers interviews with grieving families.

Here is the article that inspired this film.

  • The filmmakers had the Bridge Authority on speed dial and whenever someone got up on the railing they called it in (remember with their cameras they were a mile away). They did help save 6 people.

  • @Slipknot808 Ultimately, yes. But people can enable and intensify one's depression with negativity or inaction. She didn't seem saddened by his death either...like 'oh well." Very frustrating as a viewer to see such an attitude about it. Apathy helps no one. Nagging someone who is depressed or telling them to "cheer up," is the opposite of helpful. I can only hope someone or something in her life or any apathetic ill informed souls' life comes along and explains it to them someday.

  • tomorrow is another day guys. please take care

  • I think gene may have been aware that the cameras were there, his fall was identical to sigourney weavers in Aliens.Just a thought.

  • what a sad end.

  • @arterioes what the hell was she to do,you can't reach everyone. you are a foolish judgemental ass.

  • perhaps there is a certain comfort, in the fact that so many others have chosen their end, at this bridge. it's so sad.

  • "But for most of us the sun comes out". Amen. For some it doesn't. It's wrong to judge their decisions, when you haven't walked in their shoes.

I miss my friend. I understand why he did it, but that doesn't make his absence any easier, though. My life would be better if Paul was still in it. Hard to believe that it's been 14 years.
