This tractor is an old riding lawn mower that I converted from gas to DC electric as well as adding the hydraulic arm to the front.

  • Are you running the electric motor at a constant speed and using the hydrostatic transaxle from the garden tractor to control ground speed? Are the hydraulics powered off the hydrostatic transaxle or a separate pump?

  • Yes and yes. The motor runs a constant rpm (so no controller required) and speed is controlled with the transaxle. The hydraulics are powered off the transaxle in series with no problem sharing pressure and flow.

  • Hybrids are different then just electric. But if it does the job who can complain.

  • The battery pack lasts for 1hr of hard use and then it's a quick two minutes to swap it out for another.

  • how long does the batery last?

  • hey talk about practical u need to see the german u-boats. they used baterys and were able to run for days under water... so this is pritty practical. oh and hybrid cars aswhell

  • Just sit a fat guy on the back and you will be able to lift twice as much. ;D

  • The pump needed about 8 peak hp from the gas engine, which is approximately the same as 2.5 electrical hp (most scissor and forklifts use only 2-4 hp). I put in a 36VDC 2.4 hp motor directly coupled to the pump through a short prop shaft.

The bucket I designed to be only 3cu.ft. or around 300lb payload, although It has lifted more than that. More than 400lbs and the machine will tip- it's only 500lbs with the batteries.

  • Hell I would drive it. :) How did you get enough power to the hydraulic pump? Any idea how much it will lift?

  • Thanks for the comment AgentHog. It's very cool to operate and it's as practical as any cordless tool.
