i work at foxconn here in houston and we assemble the g6 boards and test them , i handle them every day , we are also makeing g7 boards, which is same basic look of the board.
@poussin78640 As for power consumption the DL580G2 is fitted with two hot swappable PSUs each rated at 800 W, each considerable noise maker. Regarding the DL380G6, mine was fitted with two PSUs rated at 400W. However HP provides various additional uprated versions. Cannot refer to respective noise levels though.
Good point poussin 78640. The basic DL380G6 is pretty noiseless. However to my information it will become considerably noisier once you replace the cd-rom assembly with a second sas.
As for the DL580G2 noise issues you will find much information -including a demo- here at youtube. In fact DL580G2 is considerably noisier than the DL380G2 I have seen in your video.
Run comparative benchmarks on a DL380G6 versus a seven years old DL580G2.
As file servers both machines came on exactly equal terms. As RDBMS servers the new DL380G6 is 11% faster. Now given a used DL580G2 currently costs about 200$, it means the DL380G6 is about fifteen times more expensive. That is not 15% but 15 times.
Then again I do not work for HP.
Don't you trust my benchmarking? Feel free to write your own.
