Russia's strategies 'failing' to fight HIV

Russia's HIV crisis is one of the worst in the world and the number of newly infected people has recently increased by 10 per cent.

The rise in contractions, blamed much on drug usage involving shared dirty needles, occurred although the government doubled its budget for trying to stem the spread of the disease in the last two years.

Critics say many patients are dying from the illness in the country because hospitals lack coherent and organised methods to treat them.

They also say the government's strategies of trying to fight drug dependency are not working either.

Banning the use of drugs only makes it go underground and become less safe. Prohibition doesn't work. Google "drug war"

No. The problem is NOT "getting worse because of a lack of money but because how it's being spent"

The problem is simply due to the fact that Russia does not permit addicts to have access to free fresh needles, so they use someone else's "works", and get AIDS.

Now, that REALLY took an amazingly huge amount of brain power to figure out.

If they share nidles, let them do that, everyone has a choice in life. They chose to live with HIV
