Dragon Age Origins Awakening - Pure Mage - Solo - Nightmare Difficulty

As much as I like the Arcane Warrior I love an outright damage dealer even more. I set out to make a pure mage build that could tackle Nightmare mode solo and found the combination of Battlemage, Keeper and Blood Mage to be perfect. I primarily use spirit based spells and therefore equip Staff of the Lost for 50% spirit damage bonus whilst wearing the Oven Mitts to boost cold and fire damage as backup. I swap these to get the 30% nature damage gloves if I need the extra healing, but normally Draining Aura is sufficient and a good emergency spell. If a mob is spirit resistant I use elemental mastery, hand of winter and fire spells. Draining Aura and Arcane Field are great spells at higher level when you can get a large mana pool and good regen. I never used Death Syphon much before this build, but found that with the constant stream of mobs dying at my feet it really shone and kept my mana topped up.

@john9aydin Thanks for the kind words. I am answering remotely so don't know the exact stats, however for pure mage I would suggest a good amount of willpower, both for sustainable spells and because some situations are not condusive to the use of blood magic. Obviously get magic as high as you can for maximum damage. The bloodmage specialisation is very powerful when used for a pure mage, it gives you a backup mana pool from your health and with the ability to manage your health & mana pools

@evok0999 I play on the PC so am not the best to advise you on setup for the PS3. I would suggest you put spells or skills in order of preference and cooldown. Everyone plays differently so you may have some spells others wouldn't use. You can see from my PC setup, that I group buff spells, damage over time spells, aura and PBAOE spells together.  I also manage their positions based on their damage type.

Wow. You are amazing! Seriously your a beast when playing a mage! Nice! Anyway, can you please tell me if my spell and atrribute selectioin is good, and can you give me advice for future mages. Spells: blood Mage 1 2 3 4 mage tree 1 2 heal glyphs 1 2 3 anti magic 1 2 death tree (walking bomb tree) 1 2 telekinetic tree 1 2 3 4 hexes 1 2 drain life. Attributes: around 60 magic, around 35 con. around 20 will. 14 cun. (persuation) plz reply! thnx!

any idea how many willpower is needed for this build? i currently have 80 magic and 14 willpower and 46 remaining attribute points. my mage is at level 29.

also, are buffs like one with nature and draining aura automatically disabled when mana runs out. i notice that happen to me all the time, especially with draining aura active. for some weird reasons though, arcane shield, spell wisp, and death syphon don't deactivate.
