One year ago on April 17, 2008, Chris Gaffney left the planet of the living. Heres a rare video of him performing that's NEVER been seen by anybody until now.
This is a performance of a Johnny Paycheck song "Apartment #9" by Chris Gaffney, backed Dave Gonzalez and Red Meat. This was an encore performance of a song the band hadn't performed together, so it's a little rusty in parts. Within a year of this paricular collaboration, Gaffney and Gonzalez assembled a band known as the Hacienda Brothers.
The event was a Johnny Paycheck tribute that took place at the Elbo Room in San Francisco March 19, 2003. Originally intended as a fundraiser for Johnny, Paycheck who was struggling with cancer, this event became a tribute when Johnny passed away a few weeks before the show.
The video was produced by Eric Predoehl and Jesse Block of Octalouie.com and LouieLouie.net, with camera assist by Laurel Rudy. We're sharing this video free of charge to pay tribute to some great musicians.
Love this - especially Gonzalez saying "God bless Gaff" pretty much. Thanks Eric and Jesse (and Gaff and Gonzalez and Red Meat of course)... :)
