First time fishing successfully for carp in the Harpeth River in middle Tennessee. Caught four fish, first one being over 11 pounds.

Canned corn made a perfect chum and bait. I've explained just how to do it in the video, hope it helps. All caught on my trusty little Ugly Stik with 8 pound mono.

And an extra tip... if you have a GFS (Gordon Food Service) market near you, go there and buy the bulk cans of corn to save some money. You'll use a lot for chumming...

  • I caught my first carp today. it was about 8-9 pounds. so awesome

  • @z0mbieXprt I bet you are hooked. My first carp was in a pond where they have goldfish/koi genes and don't grow bigger than 5 pounds. My first good common carp came from the creek, and I think it's the first one in this video. Next, go for some grass carp. Check my other videos on grass carp where I explain how to catch em... I just saw a big old boy in a pond today that needs catching.

  • do you use a bobber or let it sit on the bottom

and how many pound line do u use??

    thx :P

  • @krazykidxd1 I always let it sit on the bottom. One or two split shot will keep it down there, unless there is more current, in which case you need more weight. I have caught carp on line anywhere from 6 pound test up to 15 pound. The lighter line makes a more challenging battle and you gotta be more careful with the light line. Use heavier line if you want to bring em in quick, and lighter line if you want to enjoy a long fight with the fish.

  • catman cheers mate for handling em like us brits now u use a net good

  • @BlueNova1995 You brits handle your prized carp very well, better than we americans tend to handle our prized bass. I have been more concerned lately with taking care of the fish I intend to release.

  • @frankenstrat25 I never understood it either, I'd rather catch 5-10 lbs carp all day than some 2-3 lbs bass. I mean don't get me wrong, I love bass fishing sometimes, like when I am waiting for the carp to find the chum!

  • @CJALL11 you got tricked to spending more money than you needed to enjoy something that should be nearly free. Assuming he has a license or is on is own land it's his fish and he can do with it as he pleases.

  • @CJALL11 no offense but noone really cares about carp in the U.S. compared to europe.

  • Carp are really fun to catch, fantastic fighters!

  • Ever heard of carp care , unhooking mat, weigh sling

  • my friend caught a 25 pound carp in ks

  • Those weren't big but nice fun either way my dad has pulled in a 25 pound common before and I've seen a 35 be pulled in at a pay lake but nice vid

  • how do you catch such big fish
