This is my handmade offset rope rack, that ascends and descends very smoothly due to the Ansi 80 chain links (I need to oil my pulley, that is what is squealing). It acts as a one-way rope cinch on the ascent, and a handle release rack on the descent. It weighs about 1 lb.

  • why not just foot lock and for a asender\ desender use a prussic knot?

  • @treeboy113

You could do that, the advantage would be that the prussik can be hard to advance, whereas the OAR advances readily and is self advancing and releases smoothly, and since the friction is on the steel pins it should be long lasting. It is undergoing a long term test now.. See another video of my third generation device posted by a climber entitled "OAR climbing test"

  • I have developed an OAR (Offset Ascending Rack) that is half the size of this one.

See my other videos for a demonstration, static load test, and shock load drop test.

  • @gdsandkes i see but still foot locking would be better than doing that walking up the tree thing in this video.
