Here I am on a 20% day. With lack of sleep, and feeling rough after a night of partying, I thought it would be a good time to do a sleep video. Human beings evolved since the dawn of time in sync with the sun. Before the arrival of artificial light with the invention of electricity, man slept as the sun went down and rose along with the in the morning. Suddenly, in a blink of an eye in our evolution, we now stay up late watching television, surfing the internet, and reading in well lit rooms. Your body can not tell the difference between sunlight and artificial light, meaning that cortisol and other wakening hormones are forced into action for prolonged periods. (cortisol is a fat storer)! Between the hours of 10pm and 2am each night as we sleep, our bodies repair physically. From 2am until 6am each night, we repair mentally. If you eat into any of these time frames for prolonged periods of time, your body and mind will suffer. So if you have trouble sleeping, get to bed by 10pm and make sure that you are in dim light for some time before getting into bed. Stay away from bright television and computer screens before bed and do not consume caffeine after 4pm in the day as one cup of coffee still has a half life 6 hours after it is consumed. Also make sure that your bedroom is very dark. Even light falling on skin, no matter how low level, the awakening hormones will still be activated in the body. Yes thats right - its not just the eyes that tell the brain, that sunlight has arrived, but the skin can do that as well!

  • woah didn't expect the accent! I never thought to apply the 80/20 rule to sleep. I suffer from serious sleep deprivation and it's really affected my quality of life. I've basically been addicted to the internet for years but luckily it's getting better. Thanks for this vid!

  • @stop08it Accent good or bad? hehe you will give me a complex. Yea, I apply the 80/20 rule to everything. Live well 80% of the time (and I mean well) and have some real fun 20% of the time by partying and eating what vices you may have. This can only be one day a week. We are all here to have fun and man, I going to have fun :)
