My pup and I will be doing this testing in July and I was wondering for the walking on leash part can she be on a training collar aka chain chain. Its the only thing I can walk her on. Flat collar she pulls and pulls.

My dog, Pearl passed her Good Citizen test. She's a Therapy Dog in a nursing home. Some nursing homes just require Good Citizen and proof of rabies vaccine.

I have a question, I own a very sweet, and timid five year old female pit bull, and live in Nebraska. In the state of Nebraska, the law requires that all pit bulls must wear a muzzle when outside and not in a securely fenced in area. There is an exceptionfor dogs that have passed the CGC test. I have confidence that Windy will be able to pass the test, but I'm only 14, and I'm worried that they won't allow us to take the test because of my age. Is there a certain age requirement for the handler?

I am glad there is someone to make videos, but if you remake this can you include tips or tricks that are in addition to the guidelines CGC and TDI provide?

@daddlebug87 You do get a certificate. The vast majority of dogs are not able to pass the CGC test, so passing it does say something. Nursing homes often let any old dog in making the dog a "therapy" dog, but can your dog handle a special needs person having a seizure or becoming angry and violent with your dog? I encourage you to explore this, but being a therapy dog is occasionally demanding. Having your CGC is very helpful; the AKC website details the requirements.

@trainfrog Wait, so if your dog takes the test, nothing really happens? Or do you get some kind of certification that your dog can do certain things. Because my dog is old but, kind and gentle with everyone and everything. I would like him to become some kind of therapy dog, just one that could visit camps with special needs children, or nursing homes, but i dont know what to do! Some one help me!

It can help at times. In the U.S. only service animals can ride the bus, go into the grocery store, etc. but having the CGC can open some doors depending on the type of business and the proprietor. For example: some dog parks require CGC. It is also a first step towards therapy dog work.
Unfortunately, some certified CGC testers hand out certifications like candy which waters down the meaning of the certification for dogs/owners that have truly earned it.
I am so glad you made this video. A CGN (Canine Good Neighbour [Canada]) test is coming up and I would like to try and get it for my dog, Mickey.
Are you allowed to use treats? One of the main parts I am worried about is when we have to leave the room. Mickey whines when I leave him in a strange place.

Glad you like the video. That's great that the test is going to Canada. It really is an excellent program.
Here in the States you are not allowed to use treats during the test. As for the whining you can gradually practice this part of the test. It is just a matter of building up your dog's tolerance to being away from you.
Good luck,
Eric
