C152 and PA28 mid air collision in Melbourne AUS, 27 Aug 08

About 12.30pm on the 27th August 2008, a Cessna 152 and Piper Cherokee that are both operated by the Moorabbin Airport based Royal Victorian Aero Club were involved in a mid air collision over the nearby suburb of Cheltenham. Both aircraft were undertaking training flights at the time.

The Indian student pilot who was in command of the C152 was sadly killed, while the instructor and student on board the Cherokee returned safely to Moorabbin Airport.

I remember the airport that day, everyone stopped circuit operations. It was a black day for Moorabbin.
