Former Conservative MP, Michael Portillo pushes his body to the brink of death in an investigation into the science of execution.

As the American Supreme Court examines whether the lethal injection is causing prisoners to die in unnecessary pain Michael sets out to find a solution which is fundamentally humane. To do so he examines the key methods of execution available today: he discovers why convicts can catch on fire in the electric chair, learns how easy it is to botch a hanging and inhales a noxious gas to experience first hand the terror of the gas chamber.

Armed with some startling evidence Michael considers a completely new approach. Will it be the answer? There is only one way of finding out - to experience it himself.

@gosho gov I read of two thugs that did a home robbery that moved me. An 8 year old little girl had witnessed the execution of her Father and brother. Then she witnessed the brutal rape and murder of her mother. Then she endured her own rape and they had slit her throat as well but they did not slit her throat deep enough and she awoke to a horrific scene to say the least several hours later. Your saying this little girl should be put to death for believing in the death penalty......I disagree.

@tim lucifer 666 I agree. I imagine knowing my last breaths are imminent would fuel the human animal in us all, or at least in me. I think for most people the will to survive is a strong one indeed. I know, if it were me, they would have to get several people to drag me, and I would fight, kick, punch, snot, piss, spit, shit, you name it until they darted my ass like a Rhino on Nat Geo and drag my ass in there. lol

can you imagine what it must feel like being in that room? if i were the patient. i would fight back. the usual routine is the guards giving you a drugged drink. it would be normal, like a pepsi, or they would even go as far as drugging your water source. i would kill anyone who would try to kill me. normal human reactions are not against the law. i would make them suffer. how imperfect this world is...
